Helpfulp Tips for Military Brats Beginning their First Year of College

1. Don't be afraid to join clubs, but don't OVER join. The amount of organizations and clubs on a college campus can be overwhelming and you might be the type of person who wants to do it all, but try to limit yourself to a couple and then work hard and stay involved within those few. You'll have a ton more fun and get to build better relationships if you're more committed to a certain group or two!

2. Don't blow off homework! The first week or two might seem like classes are going well and the curriculum is pretty easy, but that's no excuse to slack off in class or not do homework, because before you know it you're getting handed your first college level test and the past few weeks you've been gliding through are going to hit you like a pile of bricks. Stay focused, pay attention to due dates, and do your homework!

3. Have fun! College is a new environment full of new people and new opportunities so don't be afraid to reach out to different groups of people or try new things. You're at college to learn, of course, but that doesn't mean you don't get to enjoy yourself too! (Just remember to be smart and safe, too.)
